When we are young, our face has youthful plumpness to it that starts vanishing as we age. The gradual loss of volume leads to the formation of folds and creases, which, along with sagging skin, contributes to an overall change in perception of the face.
There has been an enormous surge in demand for dermal fillers in the past few years, thanks to their versatility in enabling doctors to enhance the facial features. Now, with the use of Dermal Fillers, we can correct the facial asymmetry, restore plumpness, fill the hollows, erase the creases and reshape the features while boosting the skin quality as well. These are suitable for both men and women in all age groups, and a variety of high-quality products is now available to help us create an aesthetic balance in the face.
Anticlock – Age Reversal Clinic and Medispa, is driven by Dr. K M Kapoor's philosophy of looking at the client as a ‘whole,' weaving together their unique facial proportions, their personality, and their professional outlook. This holistic and ethical approach to beauty comes with Dr. Kapoor's keen aesthetic sense (with meticulous attention to detail), impeccable knowledge of underlying facial anatomy, injection skill (honed over years of injecting thousands of patients) and extreme professionalism. We aim to achieve harmony and symmetry in the face without taking away the individual uniqueness to create an aesthetically pleasant visage. So, in essence, we help you in projecting a ‘better you' rather than a ‘new you' that your family and friends won't recognize. Going slow and keeping it subtle are the mantras we swear by so that the results look completely natural.
We keep ourselves updated with the new advances in the filler techniques, and Dr. Kapoor has to his credit many publications in scientific journals and other educative material on dermal fillers. At Anticlock, we only use the highest quality fillers, which are US-FDA approved and are scientifically proven to be safe and effective for the purpose they are being used.
Q: WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
A: Dermal fillers are injectable gel-based treatments that are used to either add volume into the injected area or to give definition to an anatomical structure. These are specifically designed to ease out the creases, contour the face, add, and hydrate your skin to make it look supple.
Although, many types of Dermal Fillers are available in the market, today the term ‘Dermal Fillers’ has become ubiquitous with hyaluronic-acid (HA) based fillers. These days, HA based fillers are the ones that are favored by most top injectors, around the world.
Hyaluronic acid is a ‘sugar molecule’ that exists naturally in the human body (mostly in skin, connective tissues and eyes) and also in almost all living organisms. It is a wonder molecule that is ‘hydrophilic’ which means that it binds water like a sponge. This property of hyaluronic acid helps in lubricating our joints and in regulating the water balance in our skin amongst many other functions. This is what typically keeps our skin supple and well hydrated when we are young. As we age, with time we lose this vital substance leading to loss of volume and dehydration of our skin and other tissues. Injecting HA-based fillers thus helps in correcting the volume loss that has happened in the skin and fat pads under the skin, ultimately helping us in easing out the folds and wrinkles in the skin. The hyaluronic acid molecule used in the dermal fillers very closely resembles the one that naturally exists in our bodies and thus our tissues very easily integrate it.
These dermal fillers can be used to correct the tear troughs (or under-eye dark circles) and temple hollowing, to highlight the contours of the cheek, to volumize the lips and give structural definition to them, to create a chiseled look of the jawline, to do a ‘liquid rhinoplasty' or nose reshaping and to create a balance in features of the face when needed. Different kinds of fillers are suitable for different areas, and an experienced injector would be able to make that choice for you depending on your goals. These days special fillers are also available to revitalize the skin and give a skin boosting effect.
Q: WHAT ALL AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH DERMAL FILLERS?
A: Aging in face happens in different tissues and at many levels:
Skin: As we age, with time we gradually lose collagen and elastin from our skin resulting in sagging skin with large open pores.
Fat layer: Beneath the skin, our fat pockets begin to shrink and move apart, making us lose the youthful contours of the face. These show up as discrete areas, with hollows between them that present in the form of folds and flattened areas on the face. The effect of gravity, besides, leads to a sagging impact on this layer and also leads to the formation of jowls.
Bones: The jaw bone, and teeth serve as a scaffolding on which our fat, muscles, and skin of the face sit. With age, our bones tend to lose bone mineral density, and this leads to less defined bony prominences leading to a loss of structural support to the face and a sunken appearance.
Sun damage, pollution and smoking hasten this process and can lead to prematurely aged and tired look. We can use ‘dermal fillers’ to correct these signs of ageing as well as to postpone them.
The most common reasons and areas, for which people seek Dermal Fillers treatment are:
To plump up, hydrate and give structure to the ageing lips, which lose volume, and become thinner over time.
To correct the downturned corner of the lips (which extends as the marionette lines) which gives a sad appearance and a terse look.
To erase the vertical smoker’s lines around the lips, which cause the lipstick to bleed.
To smoothen the nasolabial folds which can give a saggy and tired look.
To improve the contour of the cheeks that have flattened out and contribute to the saggy look.
To reduce under eye dark circles or tear troughs which make you look perpetually tired and stressed out. Filling up these hollows removes the illusion of darkness and provides a well-rested look.
To reshape the nose, fillers are injected along the nasal bridge to improve the projection of nose and camouflage the nasal hump.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE CONSULTATION FOR DERMAL FILLERS?
A: During the initial consultation, Dr. K M Kapoor will try to understand your concerns, needs, aesthetic goals, and overall expectations. He will explain the procedure in detail & try to match your needs and wants. He makes it his priority to make you understand his plan to achieve the optimum result by making the most economical use of Dermal Fillers. Since every face is different, and the goals and expectations are variable in each client, the treatment plans at Anticlock Medispa are always tailor-made for every individual. Many times the Dermal Filler injection plan is integrated with other treatments like anti-wrinkle injections, skin tightening procedures like Ultherapy or surgical treatments like Xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits on eyelids) removal or Blepharoplasty. This is important as many a times we need a combination of treatments to achieve a pleasant outcome.
Q: WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?
A: At Anticlock Medispa, our very courteous staff will make you feel at home. Our doctors and nurses will walk you through the procedure with the utmost professionalism. You would be required to sign an informed consent before the procedure. At the same time, the local anesthetic ointment is applied, and it takes about 20 minutes to take effect. This is the time when you can ask us any questions that have popped up in your mind.
Before beginning the procedure, Dr. K M Kapoor will once again examine your facial structures and discuss the treatment plan tailored for you (once again). Dermal filler injections are done using very fine needles or blunt tipped cannula in some cases. The treatment usually takes15-30 minutes, and we make our effort to ensure your safety and comfort at all times. The injections are generally painless, but we do give you a stress ball to squeeze during the procedure. Your doctor will keep talking to you through the procedure and will keep showing the incremental change achieved with a hand-mirror after treating each area.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER THE DERMAL FILLER INJECTION? WHEN CAN I SEE THE RESULTS? HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
A: After the dermal filler injection, there is generally no downtime, and patients can return to their regular activity after the procedure. Sometimes, you may experience mild bruising or swelling, especially when under-eye hollows are treated. These subside in a few days as the fillers get integrated with your tissues and your tissues adjust to the new contours. You should, however, avoid any strenuous activity for 24 hours as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling. With lip fillers, however, the chances of swelling are high depending on the type of filler used, but that too will subside in 24 to 48 hours.
The effects of Dermal Fillers last from 9 months to up to 2 years, depending on the type of filler used, the area injected, and your individual habits. The doctor will give you an idea about the life of filler in a particular area that is being injected. You must, however, understand that aging is a continuous process, and these procedures can only delay the process.
Q: WHO IS A SUITABLE CANDIDATE FOR DERMAL FILLERS?
A: If you have noticed a loss in facial volume, hollowing of temples, under eye dark circles or sagging of facial contours, you might be a candidate for dermal filler treatment. You could also benefit from this treatment if you have a receding chin, asymmetry or imbalance in facial features, thinner lips, or a misshapen nose. If these issues are undermining your confidence, and you actively wish to postpone the signs of aging, you would be an excellent candidate to seek this treatment.
These days, people opt for this treatment to improve the perception of their emotional attributes. For e.g. people above 40 years want to look less tired, less saggy, less angry and less sad; the younger age group (25-40 years) opts for dermal fillers to look more beautiful, more youthful, slimmer or more feminine/masculine.
In all these instances, you should consider this treatment only if you are in good general health.
Q: WHAT OTHER TREATMENTS CAN BE COMBINED WITH DERMAL FILLER INJECTIONS?
A: Our vision at Anticlock Medispa is to design a holistic beauty plan for every client, highlighting the most positive aspects of their facial features, and correcting any asymmetry, hollows or contour abnormalities to give the most natural result possible.
To achieve this, many times, we need to combine other surgical and non-surgical procedures, to help patients get a revitalized look without compromising the natural proportions or functional aspects. After careful assessment of your long-term and short-term aesthetic goals and your skin type, Dr. K M Kapoor will suggest treatments that would be most suitable for you at that particular time. Our style is not to rush patients in for multiple treatments but to walk with them, one step at a time and see a natural progression in their appearance. Anticlock Medispa is committed to helping you present a youthful, more confident version of yourself to the outer world. The two most common procedures that are combined with filler injections are:
Anti-wrinkle injections: These work with Dermal fillers in a complementary manner. While the dermal fillers add volume in the flattened and sunken areas of the face, anti-wrinkle injections help in removing or diminishing the wrinkles and creases that appear on an aging face. These are performed using very fine needles and help you in getting rid of the tired, worried, or angry look by relaxing the muscles that become overactive with age and cause these wrinkles. The anti-wrinkle injections are mostly required to treat the crow’s feet lines, the forehead lines, or the worry lines, the bunny lines on the nose and the frown lines. Combining these two treatments is very important to achieve a balanced and rejuvenated look. If the volume is restored with fillers without correcting wrinkles or vice-versa, it gives the look of a job left incomplete.
Skin Tightening Procedures: World’s most favorite Skin Tightening procedure at this time is Ultherapy, and Anticlock Medispa is proud to offer it to its clients. Since aging leads to wrinkles, volume loss, and skin sagging, all three components need to be addressed at some point or the other in life. While anti-wrinkle injections relax the overactive muscles, Dermal fillers restore the volume in various fat compartments, and Ultherapy specifically works on different layers of the skin and leads to tightening as well as lifting. It is not necessary to undergo all these treatments at the same time. Dr. K M Kapoor will assess your skin quality and its texture and guide you about the need for skin tightening. If at all Ultherapy is needed, we advise our clients to undergo Ultherapy before the filler treatment as the eventual skin tightening might decrease the number of fillers required.
