Age-defying techniques make 60
the new 40

Dashing and dazzling, that's what 60-year-old Martin Hopkins wants to look on his wedding day, which is about a month away. A face and neck-lift, liposuction of the chin and upper eye-lid, Botox...Martin was here at the Fortis Hospital for a brand-new look. "My to-be bride, an Australian, is 20 years younger to me and I wanted to feel and look younger for her,'' smiles Martin, who underwent a five-hour surgery. Still recuperating, Martin says he feels great, but really didn't know that the procedure would involve so much. "Not just the physical appearance, it's a lot to do with the mind and how I feel,'' adds Martin. And Dr K M Kapoor, the man behind Martin's new look, says the trend of people above 55 going in for non-invasive age-defying techniques is rising rapidly. "I have a lot of foreign clients, for the UK and the US going in for thread lifts, liposuction, tummy tucks, lip augmentation, upper eyelid correction, under-eye bag removal, face and neck-lifts, as more and more people want to defy age, and it's so easy and affordable now,'' adds the plastic surgeon.

For many, life begins after forty, when they are over with their responsibilities and have money to spare, like 57-year-old Rajinder Kaur, who is going for Botox to take care of her crow's feet and forehead wrinkles. "My son, who's in the US, wanted me to look beautiful and younger for his engagement, and so I decided to go for a make-over,'' smiles Kaur. New surgical techniques, points out Dr Kapoor, have lessened the pain and scarring and advancements in medicines have made it possible to work safely on older people. And with people feeling younger than they are, socializing, working, active, till their late '60s and early '70s, they want to project the right image too. "I have this couple from the UK, coming for buccal fat extraction, liposuction, neck and face lift, for they are both working and want to look good, it's more about age-reversal than beauty now,'' adds Dr Kapoor.
